On 15th – 17th July 2022 we united in the fields for our 2nd year of 42 Degrees Music & Arts Festival! 🌞
The resounding reflection that has come from this is what an incredible group of people you are. Throughout the weekend there was a tangible warmth, respect, kindness, positivity, openness and interest shared by everyone. 42 Degrees is about bringing like-minded people together to celebrate, grow and explore music and art. We cannot thank you all enough for enabling that, by creating such a beautiful community. ✨✨✨✨

“Hailing from Manchester with roots in the Cumbrian north, Werkha (real name Tom Leah) and his foot stomping, jazz inflected beats have been gracing the airwaves for the best part of a decade.
Influenced as much by the rolling fells surrounding his village home as those hot sweaty times we share on the dancefloor. Werkha makes music for those crucial moments, the ones that make us feel connected as humans. When the bustle of city life comes up against the steadiness of rural perspective.
Fascinated by this dichotomy, it’s the interrelationship between these two worlds and how they weave together that inspires Werkha to write. This push and pull is reflected both in his process and in the music. Striving to make something which straddles both worlds, Werkha creates dance music with a head and a heart.”
Don’t miss your chance to catch Werkha on his home turf!

Dominic Gore is part of a rich tradition of distinctly British disruptors. As inspired by the unvarnished portraiture of Martin Parr as he is Ballardian grotesquerie - and by the seedy witticisms of Jarvis Cocker as he is the arch commentary of Neil Tennant - his solo debut skewers notions of national identity with a vivid mix of pin-sharp satire and self-lacerating candour, all steeped in an expansive palette synthesising new wave, sophisti-pop, and art-rock.
Mancunian music-maker Ellen Beth Abdi uses live loops, pokey drums, undulating synths and quietly subversive lyrics to mould her sound.
'Potent and lyrical electronic soul with a social conscience. For the thinkers and the movers of this dimension and others.’
Carlo Viscoe (aka Cody), is a digger and collector of records from all corners who’s ear for obscure but danceable grooves has landed him coveted slots alongside some of the biggest names in the UK and beyond. Both in his DJ sets and from behind the counter of Jumbo Records, Cody looks to discover, explore and share music without boundaries. Expect a far reaching journey across genres as he digs deep into his record bag.
Manchester based multi-instrumentalist & producer Dan ‘3Digits’ Berry is the man behind Hip Hop / Jazz collective The 3rd Estate. Creator of an extremely slinky remix of ‘Honey’ by Margate outfit Thandii, he’s also played on records by artists including Mr Jukes, Bombay Bicycle Club, Slugabed, Speech Debelle, NZCA/Lines & more.
A founding director of SUBMIT & long time resident DJ for their events, parties & festivals… as a DJ he has played alongside the likes of Basement Jaxx, Dark Sky, Throwing Snow, Andrew Ashong & Max Graef
3rd Estate is the new project from Manchester based musician & songwriter Dan '3Digits' Berry. With an upbringing firmly in the UK Jazz tradition and a career performing & recording with Mr Jukes, Bombay Bicycle Club, Slugabed, Speech Debelle & many more... 3Digits has been plotting a collaboration between MCs, vocalists & jazz musicians for some time.
In 2019 3rd Estate recorded their debut 'Heart is Beating EP' at Octagon Studios in Brixton and opened for Stones Throw Records alumni Homeboy Sandman & Edan at London's Jazz Cafe. Their debut release was released early 2020 via Submit Records and saw support from Don Letts (6Music), Tim Garcia (Jazz FM), Secretsundaze (NTS) & features from Clash Magazine, Earmilk, UKHH & more.Bringing together the raw energy of improvisation with the versatility and lyricism of UK Hip Hop / MC culture 3rd Estate delivers a unique live experience. Expect music & lyrics that hit your soul and grooves with a body-moving and unmistakably homegrown UK sound.
London based DJ/Producer Alex Klein is a founding member of the Submit family and also runs the Octagon Music Studio in South London and it’s sister label Dream Diary.
His debut EP ‘First Relic’ for Submit takes inspiration from ancient archaeology, especially sites around the world that seem to show advanced stonework beyond what was believed capable at the time. Parallels of this can be heard among the compositions, with shamanic vocal chops that counter skippy, resonant synthesis.
Underpinning the release is an abundance of analogue percussion (jammed live and on the fly) giving a hint of his impressive ability as a live performer. The record is pristinely mixed-down and demonstrates a breadth of technical ability many years in the making.
Benomorph surfaced in 2022 with 'Y-F ♾', a mysterious single that launched new label CloudCore's web imprint. Y-F is a skittery and unusual blend of modern garage and UK techno sounds, structured around a catchy yet undecipherable vocal chop. Quickly followed up by no-nonsense house banger 'B4 I Die', these tunes have been played in clubs up and down the UK and have caught the ears of Dusky, Martyn, Dan Snaith and Two Shell, who played it in the first Hessle Audio radio show of the year. Excited to bring these sounds to the lake district, Benomorph's electronic live set has been specially created for the dancers of 42 degrees. Expect all-weather UK techno with energetic drums, heavily processed basslines, and some outrageous pop vocal samples. Tighten your shoelaces for this one!

‘My oh my what a sound to be around. It's Duck Wax. Basslines that drive an 18-wheeler, rhythms so tight you can feel em bursting outta yer jeans, guitars so clean even the breeze pauses to listen in, and horns so hard they'd quiet down a New York traffic jam. Come move your feet with the quack that'll make your head snap back - Duck Wax.’
Fresh off the release of their upcoming single, 'Peaches', Duck Wax will be joining us on Sunday afternoon.

“Born and raised in North West London, India was immersed in music both at home and while frequenting concerts from a tender age. She owes her affinity for the capital to the Roundhouse for quickly becoming her favourite place and inspiring her to remain in London after attending several of the young creative courses.
Released in July 2021, India’s debut EP, Inertia explores shimmering, electronic-tinged soul, with Raf’s bleeding-edge production proving the perfect foil for India’s limber, jazz-inflected tones. Whether it’s the rippling R&B on ‘Waves’, or gliding over the low-slung hip hop grooves of ‘Go Slow’, this trend continues on the follow-up, currently slated for release in 2022. Stylistically bolder than its predecessor, it finds India luxuriating in low-key R&B productions and producing deeply percussive, soul-tinged bops while pushing her pen beyond the ideas of relationships and self-sabotage as expressed on Inertia.”

The band comprises guitarist Lydia Higman, cellist Georgina Lloyd-Owen, violinist Athena Hawksley-Walker, and singer Olivia Poust. They are supported by Tom Alford (drums) and Aris Sabetai (electric bass). Their debut single ‘Two Steps Behind’ was recorded, produced, and mixed entirely from home. The band are working towards releasing their first EP later this year.’

Their powerful live sets are extended improvisations and spontaneous expressions of emotion. Based on their electric live performance they were selected to open the BBC Introducing Stage at the 2017 Reading and Leeds festivals, the latter resulting in a glowing mention in the Guardian Online. In recent years, they’ve followed up with critically acclaimed performances at Rockaway Beach Festival, Live at Leeds, Camden Rocks, Sheffield Tramlines, Download festival, Ramblin' Man and The Bingley Weekender.
The band are regular darlings of BBC Radio Leeds and Amazing Radio and have featured on Radio 6 Music, Radio X, Absolute Radio and Tom Robinson’s BBC Music Introducing mixtape.

Later in the year they released powerful psych-rock single ‘Walking On Air’ produced by Gordon Raphael. Unable to tour the album during lockdown KOYO are now back on the circuit and eager to share ‘You Said It’ together with old favourites and some stunning new material.

Sam Humes is hosting the stand-up comedy at this year’s festival.Every year we send a team of shamans into the woods to lure Sam out from the trees using flute-song, hymns and the sound of opening tinnies of beer.If we’re lucky, Sam will emerge from the forested depths to entertain us with his playful hijinks and tomfoolery. When satisfied that he’s spread enough joy, Sam scurries off back into his secret comedy workshop in the woods, amongst his adopted family of badger and voles.Although we plead with him every year to stay, Sam must return to feed his small litter of badger children, who must suckle.

Orla will be performing a 20-minute solo dance performance, which will take the audience on an intimate journey through experiences and feelings of growing up in a small village in the Lake District. Orla will float in and out of different sensations, memories and emotions that the rural landscape has provoked, touching on the curious and tactile experiences as a child, the restriction and isolation felt as a teen, and moments in between. The solo will be set to original music, composed by Molagon, an independent musician based in the Lake District. His ethereal soundscapes and groovy rhythms, teamed with the scattered narrative of the piece and the exploration of real experiences that young people face in rural areas, will create an experience that is both very strange and very real.
Hello gorgeous people.
As we start to approach the sunnier days, you may have noticed we’ve been a little quieter than usual. After much thought, we’ve decided to dedicate a full year of restoration and reflection so that 42 Degrees can continue to grow, fuelled by the joy and positive energy that’s made the last two years so beautiful.
That means 42 Degrees Festival 2023 will sadly not be happening.
We’re going to miss you so much over the next few months but know it’ll be worth the wait when we meet again in 2024. In the meantime, we hope you have the most beautiful spring and summers, dancing in fields with fellow music and art-lovers. Sending much love and see you in the near future … ❤️
